| Bio: | Why the Spiral? It's a chambered nautilus. The shell makes a logarithmic spiral, which is based on the golden ratio or phi. This is an irrational number that occurs again and again in nature, most always generating shapes and patterns that are beautiful to look at as well as extremely functional. (It has other really cool mathematical properties as well.) So I like this shell because it is beautiful. I also like it because it represents life to me -- we cycle through the seasons and stages of our lives, not moving beyond our past but enclosing it within the center of ourselves. We move through literal seasons, but also cycles of relationships and feelings, times of strength and vulnerability. We cycle over and over again. When a new stage comes, we wall off the last chamber and move on to a new one, but we carry that old chamber around with us always. It is part of who we bring with us to our future.
